Arbor Day of Service
APRIL 29, 2011
The Massachusetts Arborists Association launched a brand new volunteer initiative in 2010 called Arbor Day of Service. This initiative was built on the success of the association’s traditional celebration, held for 30 years, by creating a statewide volunteer service day. We hope you'll participate in 2011.

In April 2010, 200 MAA members from across the state took part in a brand new volunteer initiative called Arbor Day of Service. More than 40 Massachusetts communities received an estimated $325,000 in professional arboriculture services from 52 MAA member firms. The MAA partnered with the Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters Association, and other local community leaders, to identify projects that could benefit from professional tree care. Projects included tree planting, ornamental pruning and hazard tree removal at sites including town parks, elementary schools, community libraries, and playgrounds across the state. More than 2,200 volunteer hours were recorded that day.
This year, the MAA’s Arbor Day of Service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 and we hope you’ll be one of the tree care volunteers making a real difference in their own communities.
Make a difference by giving back
The MAA’s Arbor Day of Service initiative spreads the spirit of generosity and awareness of proper tree care across the Commonwealth. Participating members volunteer and donate professional tree care services --- such as tree planting, ornamental pruning, and hazard tree removal --- right in their own backyards.
Everyone is Invited to offer project ideas
To help keep the ball rolling, we are asking everyone to identify potential projects in their community that could benefit from professional tree care. Is there an elementary school or library in your town in need of safety pruning or tree planting? How about hazard tree removal at a park or playground? What about other local community groups that could use a hand?
Posting your project idea is easy! (See instructions below) Our goal is to gather project ideas from all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts by March 15, 2011. MAA members will use the listing to search for projects ideas for their Arbor Day of Service volunteer effort.
Plan to participate now!
Arbor Day of Service projects can be large or small in scale and ideas for projects will be available on the MAA website. If you already have a service project in place, just register the event with the MAA and you’ll be included in the volunteer effort. Support will be provided to all member volunteers including suggestions for planning, promoting, and carrying out a successful Arbor Day of Service project.
Sponsors welcome!
The MAA’s Arbor Day of Service also offers many opportunities for industry vendors to show their support. Learn more...
